The crowds started to follow Jesus to see and receive a miracle (we know that crowds of over 5000 people gathered). There were so many that His only escape was to the sea - in a boat - so that He could preach and not be swamped.
Jesus refuses to let the demons speak out because He wanted others to believe it for themselves from seeing His actions and hearing His teaching.
Crowds came to see Jesus but only twelve were chosen to work for Him. To do this they needed to be with Him, to learn from His lifestyle, to understand His message and work and to receive authority from Him to do the work. Each one's name is really not important to us but it was to Jesus. He called them by name and He knew them personally, "I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine". (Isaiah 43:1).
Time to think
- Are you willing to follow Jesus?
- Are you willing to learn from Jesus?
