Study 29
He always has time for the suffering and needy.
Read Mark 10v46-52
Jesus comes closer to His destiny in Jerusalem when He will be seen as the Saviour of the world. Surely His mind would be so focused on the suffering He was about to go through and the immense importance of His work that He wouldn't have time for anyone else. But that is not so.
Care for the suffering
A seemingly insignificant beggar starts calling out for the Son of David to have pity on him. In the Old Testament the Son of David was the "King" who would "reign wisely "(Jeremiah 23:5,6).
Of course people told him to be quiet - who did he think he was - but he just shouted all the more. He is unwilling to let anyone get in his way. Then amazingly as he shouts out for help, Jesus stops for him and commands him to go to Him.
In verse 49b the people tell him the news - the Lord is calling for him. He throws away probably his greatest possession - his coat - because he trusted that Christ was about to do something for him worth more than anything he had and he comes to Jesus.
See how much his faith in Christ was rewarded. He was no longer a beggar but a follower of the king.
Time to think
- Do you have time for the suffering and needy?
- Do you have time for Jesus?
