Study 49

What next...

Read Mark 16v9-20

How sad that those who should have expected so much were in fact "mourning and weeping" (verse 9). Over and over Jesus predicted his resurrection but after all small faith leads to a feeling of hopelessness. It is little wonder that Jesus tells them off for their lack of faith (verse 14).

Tell others

Verse 15 shows that the Christian should be concerned to tell others of the good news that "God so loved the world that he gave his one and only son that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life" (John 3:16).

This is a message for all people. It does not matter about colour or race.

Baptism is a public act of owning Christ and any who reject Jesus will be condemned.

God gives signs to accompany all new works. Moses the law giver (Exodus 4:1-9), the prophets (1 Kings 18:2, 2 Kings 2:14-25) and the apostles (Hebrews 2:4,2 Corinthians 12:12 and Acts 19:11-12) all received spectacular gifts.

However when reading through the account of the early church in Acts we can see how they became less and less frequent as the bible is established.

Miracles in and of themselves do not prove that a work is from God (2 Thessalonians 2 & Revelation 13) and they must never be used in a meeting to merely 'show off' supernatural powers. This is clearly wrong (Matthew 4: 5-7). But God is still able to work miracles.

Jesus is then taken up to heaven, to God's right hand where he waits, rules (Psalm 110:1) and prays for his people, (Romans 8:34).

The disciples went out and preached the great message in a small city, in a small country in the Middle East and now there are more Christians in the world than there has ever been. Why? Because it is God's message, God's gospel.

There is good news for you. Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He died for sin to bring you to God. Have you received Him? Do you know the risen Lord?

Time to think

  1. Are you trusting Jesus as your Saviour?
  2. Are you telling others about Him?
